My name is Allene Abrahamian and I am from the Phi Theta class and graduated in 2013! I’m currently half way through my broadcast journalism master’s program at the University of Maryland, College Park at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism. I’m also co-president of the Merrill Graduate Student Association. I’ve been learning all the ins and outs of both print and broadcast journalism. I’ve had some of my stories printed in local newspapers and campus magazines this past year, but my favorite part has been video editing and being on camera. This upcoming spring, in my final semester, I will be reporting full time for Maryland Newsline, and will be on live television in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties (alternating between anchoring and reporting on the field). My work is displayed on my website: www.alleneabrahamian.com Along with being a full time graduate student I work 20 hours a week at the College of Arts and Humanities on campus doing public relations and marketing work. I project manage major campus events and juggle a bunch of tasks regarding news on our website, press releases, social media, etc. In my spare time I practice boxing and spend too much money at the mall (as most of you know). I absolutely love what I do, and I feel like I got my first taste in this field when I was the public relations chair for DPhiE. The sorority also gave me the confidence I needed to move up in my position and become a VP among my other amazing peers. My favorite DPhiE moment was Ribboning Ceremony when we were serenaded and received a bouquet of flowers from fraternities on campus and loved it even more watching the new pledge classes get the same treatment!
